JAMsj Resource library

The Japanese American Museum of San Jose maintains a non-lending library of  materials available for use in the library. The library collects materials that cover Japanese American history, culture and art with a focus on the greater San Francisco Bay Area, including primary resources that were published or created in the WWII incarceration camps.

All materials can be viewed onsite at JAMsj and may not be borrowed or leave the premises. To access library materials please contact library@jamsj.org to schedule an appointment.

About our library

The library was started in the early days of the museum by one of the founding members, Ken Iwagaki.  Ninety percent of our collection is donated by the community and the collection is still growing.

search the catalog

Users can search the library’s online public access catalog at https://www.wikilibrary.com/library/jamsj. The catalog primarily includes book materials. The catalog does not include artifacts that are part of the Museum Collection.

contribute to the collection

The collection grows through donations by our members and supporters. If you have books that you would consider donating please follow the process below:

  1. Search the JAMsj Library Catalog to verify that we do not already have a copy of the book you wish to donate.

  2. If we do not already have a copy of the book you wish to donate, please email library@jamsj.org and share the title, author, year of publication and a picture of the book so we can verify the condition.

  3. If the book selected, you will be notified by a Library Volunteer, who will give instructions for dropping off or shipping the book to JAMsj.

A Library Volunteer will reach out to you within 7-14 days with additional questions or next steps.
