1:00-3:00 p.m.

Japanese American Museum of San Jose
535 N. Fifth Street

“In Japan, there is a spiritual and cultural aspect to wrapping gifts and objects. The concept of wrapping is more than to protect or decorate, it is also a reflection of the traditional Japanese sense of beauty.” – Vicky Mihara-Avery

We are excited to offer a special Origami Gift Wrapping Class, featuring award winning origami instructor and specialist in Japanese paper crafts, Vicky Mihara-Avery. Just in time for the holidays, this class will cover quick and easy Japanese inspired gift wrapping techniques through step-by-step demonstrations and hands-on practice.

•   Use layers of coordinating papers for simple, elegant gift wrapping.
•   Tie MIZUHIKI paper cords to give your gift that unique Japanese touch.
•   Plus, use FUROSHIKI for inspired methods to wrap gifts, including unusually shaped objects.

This program will also include a trunk show featuring products from Vicky’s store, Mountain Valley Paper Company, including gift wrap sets and her DVD The Japanese Art of Gift Wrapping. For more information, visit their website at http://www.mvpaper.com/catalogs/DVD/DVD_Wrap_prd.html.

Vicky Mihara Avery is the third-generation in her family to promote and share the experience of Japanese paper crafts. Vicky recently made guest appearances on Martha Stewart, the Carol Duvall Show, and Good Morning America. She has also been an invited lecturer and instructor at museums, festivals and origami conferences around the country.

Cost: $10 for members*; $15 for non-members (includes admission to the museum); an additional $3 materials fee will be collected at the beginning of class. *Members who are active volunteers at the museum receive an additional $5 off.

RSVP early (20 students max) – Please contact PublicPrograms@jamsj.org or call the JAMsj office at (408) 294-3138 to reserve a spot.
